
Production Engineer
The Company:
A long established and a reputable sub-contract sheet metal specialist has outlined a diverse but integral opportunity for a Production Engineer. Working as part of a team with Company Directors and other key staff, this role will seek to ensure the smooth, efficient operation of the Company. They operate in bespoke, high quality engineered products often on tight schedules, which provides an essential service for clients when they need it most. The Position:
A summary of the core responsibilities is listed below and provides the framework for a challenging, varied but ultimately rewarding role.
Production Support:
- Loading Sales Orders and raising works orders
- Co-ordinating materials and their deliveries with schedules and tying up with the working foreman
- Ensuring component flow of parts between departments including in-house laser factory
- Co-ordinating subcon repairs/servicing of machinery and in-house maintenance tasks
Logistics & Despatch (Including Export):
- Working with Client requirements to pack and ship local, national and international land, sea and air freight
- Associated paperwork with the above
Design, Design Review & CAD:
- Manufacturing to client drawings – review drawings, ensure that they can be manufactured, re-engineer them onto the company’s CAD system and produce folding programs for CNC machine
- Design from scratch to client’s specification of many different items from basic bracketry to certified products. Incorporating technical, commercial and other factors
Commercial Aspect of Engineering:
- Formulating quotations, estimating time and materials, checking stock, technical aspects and commercial ties
- Reviewing costings and investigating any discrepancies
Purchasing:
- Purchasing of materials and services
- Chase suppliers ensuring production schedule is maintained
Quality & Inspection:
- Inspection of sub-contract parts, internal inspections through the process and inspection prior to despatch c/w associated paperwork
- Work within the company’s systems and prepare and hosting audits to retain ISO9001 approval, as well as facilitating new processes as the company further develops their in-house processes
Health & Safety:
- Maintenance of established systems and working with external H & S Consultant
Candidate Requirements:
With the above in mind, the company need someone that can potentially work alongside the foreman as a first line in shopfloor, particularly helping in monitoring work progress and providing training and support to shop floor staff. Additional candidate requirements are as follows:
- Some form of relevant engineering experience
- A “can do” attitude and someone who doesn’t mind “mucking in”
- Is a little flexible with working hours when required, eg hanging on for couriers or coming in early for a particular emergency when required
- Is computer literate – ideally with knowledge of a relevant 3D CAD package (currently use AutoDesk Inventor) and/or manufacturing ERP Systems (they use a sheetmetal specific system called MieTrak, Amada Bending program and RADAN laser nesting software
- Local to Greater Manchester
- Willing to learn new skills and advance their role over a long period of time
Remuneration:
- Basic salary of c£35,000 (dependent on experience)
- 25 days holiday (9 are fixed for shutdowns) plus 8 bank holidays
- Pension in line with statutory requirements – (employee currently pays 5% minimum and the company 3%)
- Provide support and training where required.
- Provide good working conditions having refurbished the factory over the last few years
