VP Exploration

A new and exciting gold explorer with a large land position in the Quebec region is presently seeking to appoint a VP of Exploration to lead and manage its regional and deposit-scale exploration programs and drilling activities.

The Position:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the appointed VP Exploration will be responsible for:

  • Planning, directing, and supervising all exploration activities in a cost-effective, safe, environmentally, and socially sound manner, in coordination with the exploration team in the field
  • Ensuring compliance with the approved exploration budget
  • Identifying and reviewing new mineral exploration projects for acquisition and with the negotiation of option or joint venture agreements
  • Spearheading exploration projects through technical assistance, mentoring and technical leadership
  • Supporting the company’s executive management with mineral exploration expertise
  • Assisting with the preparation of mineral resource estimates
  • Contributing to corporate development, strategy and reporting needs

The Candidate:

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate:

  • A minimum university degree in geology or geological engineering
  • Strong financial skills, commercial understanding, analytical and report-writing abilities
  • Registered or qualified for registration as a professional geologist or engineer
  • Strong and varied experience (large to small company and consulting) in the gold sector
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience, including head office and field exploration roles
  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills
  • A good understanding of mineral resource company valuations, including cashflow models and comparative analyses
  • Competence in geological interpretation, computer-aided collection, analysis and 3D modelling of exploration data
  • Experience with both owner-operated and contracted exploration services an asset
  • Familiar with the company’s NI 43-101 obligations, and preferably a Qualified Person under NI 43-101
  • Equally comfortable in the boardroom as at exploration and mine sites
  • Excellent communication skills in English (and ideally French)
