    An international retail design business is presently seeking to expand its purchasing department to support the business as it diversifies its product range and continues to grow year on year.

    The Position:

    Reporting to the Head of Procurement, the appointed Strategic Procurement Manager will assume responsibility for product delivery, sales account success and complex project coordination. Developing and implementing a purchasing strategy which will guide the business through a period of exciting development, the Strategic Procurement Manager will:

    • Take overall responsibility for trategic sourcing
    • Build and maintain category strategies to support strategic procurement initiatives
    • Provide regular commodity and market intelligence updates
    • Negotiate best possible cost service guarantees and achieve sustainable relationships with suppliers
    • Develop and implement sourcing and supplier selection strategy domestically and internationally
    • Evaluate supplier core competencies and competitive positioning using industry cost models
    • Manage excess and obsolescence
    • Implement supplier agreement contracts where beneficial
    • Working with cross-functional stakeholders and suppliers to reach agreement on contract terms and conditions
    • Research and anticipate shifts in the negotiating power of suppliers
    • Analyse industry trends and evolving technology
    • Identify supply base issues to minimize risk and protect continuity of supply
    • Develop supplier relationships at trade shows, supplier meetings and conferences
    • Develop a supplier management program with key suppliers including metrics, performance goals and improvement initiatives
    • Establish purchasing policies and ensure compliance across the department
    • Continuously improve productivity and operational efficiencies
    • Lead department to develop forecasts for future demand and place orders in a timely fashion based upon vendor lead-time

    The Candidate:

    Applicants will be expected to demonstrate:

    • A minimum of five years’ manufacturing purchasing experience within the shop fitting industry
    • Effective negotiation and persuasion skills
    • Strong knowledge of warehouse processes and inventory management
    • Familiarity with production parts and supplier manufacturing processes
    • Experience of technical buying from design drawings
    • Good numeracy, IT and analytical skills
    • Knowledge and experience of working and developing MRP systems
    • (Ideally) experience with procuring from Europe and the Far East
    • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and communication skills
    • The ability to multi-task under pressure in a calm and mature manner
    • A willingness to undertake business travel as required in UK and overseas
    • (Ideally) CIPS training/membership and/or purchasing qualification
