The appointed Senior Exploration Manager / Director will lead, supervise, organize and coordinate multidisciplinary projects while ensuring compliance with company standards, guidelines, ethics, values and standard operating procedures.

The Position:

The Senior Exploration Manager / Director will establish work plans (e.g., safety, target generation, budgets, resources, data management, geologic models, business, and financial planning, etc.) while working collaboratively with key stakeholders and driving execution of the plans. This will involve:

  • Leading the exploration team to discovery
  • Providing leadership, coaching, mentoring and support to ensure high levels of performance
  • Ensuring that an appropriate organizational structure is in place to achieve strategic objectives and optimize the use of staff/resources
  • Managing business partners through effective and disciplined contract management
  • Building and maintaining collaborative internal relationships with key departments
  • Planning and executing agreed budgeted work programs
  • Developing exploration target models, target generation and prioritization using a defined and collaborative rate and rank process
  • Working collaboratively with project teams to develop Stage-appropriate Project Execution Plans, focused on geology and resource estimation deliverables
  • Coordinating technical work programs
  • Managing logging, sampling and assaying for all exploration drilling to ensure timely and accurate collation of exploration data
  • Ensuring data collection and data management is completed in accordance with company protocols
  • Leading geological modelling efforts to support quality reserve, resource and inventory estimation
  • Complying with all regulatory and statutory requirements, minimizing risk exposure and liability
  • Managing contracts and adhering to Social Responsibility agreements
  • Carrying out drill site construction, rehabilitation and all associated activities in accordance with site policies and to the regulatory authorities
  • Leading tenement and lease management within statutory requirements under the Mineral Resources Act
  • Developing and driving the safety strategy and ensuring alignment with Global Exploration Safety) and site safety initiatives.
  • Developing and managing risk registers for all exploration activities (e.g., drilling programs)

The Candidate:

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate:

  • A degree qualification in geology or a related field
  • Over ten years’ broad industry experience in mining and exploration environments
  • Strong knowledge of the resource development process, from grassroots exploration to reserve definition and production
  • Broad and multi-disciplinary experience in a variety of geological environments, with exposure to gold and base metals
  • An outstanding degree of technical proficiency and an innovative approach to share with others that will lead to new discoveries
  • Proven record of accomplishment in overcoming obstacles and setbacks
  • Experience in managing technical staff and understanding and communicating management expectations
  • High degree of leadership agility to manage change and exceptional emotional intelligence
  • Knowledge of cutting-edge modern technology, geological concepts, ideas, and mineralization models
  • Visible leadership in safety, health and S&ER
  • Experience in working with and supporting exploration activities in a variety of cultural environments
  • Strong knowledge of cost-benefit analysis, project management methodologies, and change management, including stakeholder engagement and communications
  • The ability to communicate to technical and non-technical staff, influencing others while maintaining an open mindset
