Our client is seeking a flexible and detail-oriented team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks, produce quality work and consistently meet deadlines.

The Position:

The appointed Senior Estimator will work primarily on negotiated commercial projects within our client’s core markets of healthcare, advanced technology, higher education, life sciences and corporate office. In this role, you will work closely with architects, engineers, owners and subcontractors, from first estimate all the way through subcontracts being formalized.  This will involve:

  • Providing innovative solutions to complex issues as they arise related to cost, lead-times, trade partners, and/or specified products or materials
  • Making reliable predictions as relates to cost and estimating across all scopes of work
  • Preparing detailed conceptual cost estimates and conceptual cost studies from schematic or feasibility-level documentation
  • Assembling complete presentation-worthy estimate packages that clearly communicate project cost
  • Controlling unit costs and the factors that affect construction cost
  • Preparing detailed instructions to bidders, trade specific clarifications and comprehensive bid packages
  • Managing the bidding process: Soliciting bids, communicating with the bidders, evaluating subcontractor proposals and using bid tally sheets
  • Making subcontractor award recommendations to customers and negotiating/finalizing subcontracts with trade partners
  • Participating in the preparation and presentation of cost/budget information to customers
  • Involvement in request for proposal responses (RFP’s)

The Candidate:

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate:

  • A minimum of five years’ experience as a Pre-Construction Manager or Senior Estimator in the commercial construction industry
  • Specific experience of working on projects in healthcare, advanced technology, higher education (k12), life sciences and/or corporate office
  • A familiarity with reviewing construction contracts to identify key insurance and damages clauses
  • Experience of managing and motivating project teams during the preconstruction phase of projects
  • A track record of preparing detailed estimates and developing variance summaries between estimates and value engineering studies throughout
  • Excellent listening and strong communication skills
  • Experience of collaborating with project teams to establish necessary staffing and project requirements
  • The ability to identify, adapt to and resolve complex issues
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, estimating software (WinEst, Timberline or similar), take-off software (On-Screen Takeoff or similar), BIM tools (Revit, Assemble, etc.), project management software (CMiC or similar), and scheduling software (Primavera or similar)
