We are currently working with one of the world’s largest copper producers who are looking to appoint an experienced Operations Manager for its team in Arizona.
The Position:
The Operations Manager will be responsible for leading and managing the mine, mill and L-SX-EW operational departments in a controlled and stable manner, striving for continuous improvement while assuring the health and safety of all employees. Reporting directly to the General Manager and with leadership responsibility for the managers of each operational department, the successful candidate will be tasked with:
- Collaborating with (and providing strategic guidance to) operational and maintenance personnel in the execution of maintenance activities
- Creating a culture that strives for continuous improvement and low-cost alternatives within operational activities
- Balancing maintenance and production requirements with understanding risks
- Developing action plans to continuously improve operational processes
- Reinforcing best safety practices and ensuring that all aspects of the work meet safety and environmental regulations
- Overseeing safety investigations, instigating incident reports and recommending corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence
- Planning accurate annual cost and production budgets and updating current fiscal year production and financial projections
The Candidate:
Applicants will be expected to demonstrate:
- Extensive open pit experience, ideally within coper mining specifically
- A minimum bachelor’s degree in mining, metallurgy, industrial engineering or chemical engineering
- Strong knowledge of mine, mill and L-SX-EW Operational systems.
- Strong leadership skills to teach, develop, empower, and mentor
- Effective written, visual, electronic, and verbal communication skills
- The ability to manage time effectively, set priorities and efficiently handle multiple concurrent tasks
- Strong teamwork, problem solving and negotiation skills
- The ability to work in conditions of extreme heat, extreme cold, vibration, chemicals (including airborne and/or skin exposure), high noise levels, confined spaces, and heights (utilising appropriate provided PPE and equipment)
- Availability to work outside of normal business hours as demanded by the conditions at the operations
- and basic computer functions in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook
