Qualified and experienced Exploration Geologist required to support district-wide activities on our client’s established Tennessee zinc mining leases.
The Position:
The appointed Exploration Geologist will assume responsibility for:
- Overseeing underground and surface drilling at and around mine sites
- Visiting drill sites to log and determine termination depths and to retrieve core
- Reviewing and interpreting geologic data obtained from underground and surface drilling, uploading this to geological database
- Generating sectional and level plan interpretation using all geologic data in a 3-D modeling software
- Assisting with site reclamation efforts at drill sites as needed
- QA & QC of geologic data and samples
- Providing technical and personal support to trainee/student geologists
- Assisting in maintaining underground and surface drill hole database
- Creating isopach and structural contour maps using Surfer software
- Generating exploration targets from 2D contour maps as well as 3D paleo structure surfaces in Mine Sight
- Assisting in the development of district wide 3D block model to locate geologic and structural trends for exploration and long-term planning purposes
- Assisting with geostatistical resource estimation techniques and block modelling
- Logging diamond drill core or rock chips for geologic, structural and geotechnical data
- Demonstrating effective performance in achieving agreed SHEC goals to support department, site and company standards
- Leading SHEC through personal behaviors and conversations
- Taking responsibility for the safety of all personnel
The Candidate:
Applicants will be expected to demonstrate:
- A minimum BSc qualification in geology
- At least three years’ surface/subsurface mineral exploration experience
- Experience in geological modelling software packages, preferably Mine Sight
- Exposure to geostatistical resource estimation techniques and block modelling
- Knowledge of a broad range of drilling techniques
- Good practical understanding of mineral deposits and exploration
- Ability to contribute to and work effectively in a group
- Good time management and prioritization skills
- Strong communication and leadership skills
