The successful candidate will provide a commercial, contractual, and financial management service to our client’s bespoke / facades business unit to ensure profit targets are met.

The Position:

Based primarily from our client’s Derbyshire headquarters but with home working one or two days a week, the appointed Commercial & Contracts Manager will report to the company’s General Manager and assume responsibility for:

  • Ensuring that commercial opportunities are identified and progressed, that risks are avoided and managed, and that accounts receivable are managed to maximise cash performance
  • Embedding a culture of continuous improvement and compliance with statutory and regulatory guidelines
  • Managing all contractual matters (terms and conditions, framework agreements, pre-let meetings, order acknowledgements, compliance, collateral warranties, bonds, guarantees, non-disclosure agreements etc)
  • Providing advice on contractual implications and commercial risks on projects, both prospective and secured
  • Measurement and evaluation of work undertaken, preparing interim valuations
  • Cash management (ensuring payment terms are in line with company policies, monitoring customer projects, ensuring recovery of monies etc)
  • Investigating, managing and concluding disputes with customers to the businesses advantage
  • Commercial reporting (cost accruals, dispute provisions, revenue recognition/adjustments, project performance, variance reporting, internal/external audit etc)
  • Developing excellent customer relationships, attending relevant meetings and completing customer questionnaires

The Candidate:

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate:

  • Previous experience in a surveying / commercial role, ideally (but not necessarily) within the precast concrete / facades sector
  • Commercial acumen and financial awareness
  • Numeracy, literacy and an ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Some technical knowledge of precast concrete and masonry façade solutions
  • Knowledge of modern construction techniques and site constraints
  • The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • An understanding of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and other relevant legislation
  • (Ideally) a bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying and (or working towards) MRICS
