This is a fantastic engineering leadership position at one of our client’s underground mines in North-eastern Ontario (relocation assistance is available) with a 4 day on / 3 day off rotation.

The Position:

The appointed Chief Mine Engineer will assume responsibility for:

  • Providing technical leadership and operational expertise to the engineering team, coordinating activities to meet production goals
  • Supervising all engineering activities including reconciliation and reporting
  • Enhancing grade control and minimizing dilution through design and planning, stope access and mining sequence
  • Ensuring that effective recruitment, training and succession planning is in place
  • Leading performance by setting expectations, conducting performance evaluations, and providing feedback and coaching to direct reports
  • Reviewing mine design, planned mining activities and KPIs to improve value to the operation
  • Ensuring that designs and applications align with engineering standards, safety, environmental regulations and company policies and procedures

The Candidate:

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate:

  • Registered professional engineering license in Ontario (P.Eng).
  • BSc in mine engineering
  • 7 to 10 years’ experience in an underground mine engineering supervisory role
  • A strong grasp of long-hole and bulk mining methods
  • Experience of ground control, mine ventilation systems and underground water management
  • Strong digital literacy, including the ability to use and create excel spreadsheets and work with mining software (A-Mine, Deswik, VentSim etc.)
  • Strong leadership, resourcefulness and ability to prioritize engineering work and coordinate multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving techniques
  • First class interpersonal and communication skills between technical and non-technical groups
  • The ability to coach EIT, mentor and develop technical staff career progression
