A leading specialist in the sustainable development of mining operations is presently looking to appoint a Chief Geologist.

The Position:

The Chief Geologist will lead the production geology team and collaborate with other departments including mine operations and engineering. The successful candidate will plan, direct and manage all geology functions, including:

  • Developing team members and mentoring geology staff
  • Developing block models used to calculate reserves and resources
  • Designing and managing infill drill programs
  • Ensuring daily, weekly and monthly mine production targets are met
  • Overseeing mine geology projects to ensure timelines and quality standards are met
  • Maintaining communication with mine engineering and mill metallurgy to ensure that targets are met
  • Developing and maintaining the geology budget, including monitoring department and drill program costs
  • Liaising with contractors and outside agencies when required

The Candidate:

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate:

  • A minimum bachelor’s degree in geology, geological engineering or related (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • A minimum of ten years’ experience in an underground operation
  • Professional Geologist designation as defined by a Qualified Person from Canadian National Instrument 43-101 (Or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months)
  • (Ideally) experience with Vulcan and Deswik software
  • Strong technical and computer skills (including Microsoft Office 365 suite)
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • (Ideally) some knowledge and experience using SAP
  • Current location in Ontario (the company may reasonably assist with relocation however)
