The Position:

The appointed Chief Geologist will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our client’s Geology department, including the direct coaching of personnel involved in the design and execution of exploration, resource modelling, development and mine Geology programs.  Key accountabilities will include:

  • Providing leadership and technical guidance to the Geology department
  • Initiating and directing drill programs
  • Preparing short- and long-term resource models that meet corporate model standards, slope stability studies, geological reports and the recommendations of geological and exploration initiatives
  • Preparing and managing operating and capital budgets that are adequate for the completion of projects
  • Providing technical support to Mine Operations and short- and long-range planning
  • Communicating performance standards, establishing performance goals and conducting regular performance reviews with direct reports
  • Ensuring alignment of Geology goals with the organizational business objectives and goals
  • Liaison between Geology and other disciplines when required
  • Ensuring safe work environment and safe practices

Experience / Requirements: 

  • A minimum bachelor’s (ideally master’s) degree in geology or a related scientific discipline
  • At least five years’ professional geology or related scientific experience
  • A successful track record in the design and management of exploration and advanced development programs
  • Proficiency in the design, management and completion of computerized resource models
  • Supervisory experience with excellent and creative problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods used in complex geological analyses
  • The ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • The ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
