Engineering Department Manager

As a result of ongoing expansion, our client is seeking a Department Manager for its Geotechnical services team in Cleveland, Ohio.  This is a great opportunity to lead an established team in a strong market.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and monitor all departmental projects in progress.
  • Ensure that work is executed on time and in accordance with client requirements and company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Oversee the preparation of proposals and cost estimates to achieve desired profitability, ensuring proper scoping of services, availability of manpower and pricing.
  • Staff training, development, and performance review.
  • Timely delivery of services and deliverables
  • Adhere to policies and procedure.
  • Plan for and participate in business development activities to identify, develop, win, and execute project opportunities and build client relationships.
  • Prepare and execute annual business plan for the department.
  • Oversee and manage the success of the key department metrics of revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability.
  • Develop an understanding and awareness of project-related risk; be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company; be familiar with company risk policies.
  • Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines.
  • Create and model a safe work environment; demonstrate safety practices; promote pre-task planning for all projects.
  • Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects; monitor quality standards and practices; engage APRs on projects at their onset.

Applicant Requirements:

  • A minimum bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (Engineering, environmental science, geology etc).
  • At least ten years’ geotechnical consulting experience, including supervisory responsibility.
  • Licence as a Professional Engineer
  • A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history
